Books for Kids about Divorce

Books for Kids about Divorce

The following twenty-six books were compiled by the Board of Directors of Child Centered Solutions.  Each book is focused on helping children (toddlers through school aged children) understand and cope with the divorce of their parents.  This is an extremely impressionable age group, causing divorce to have long-lasting effects on the children if the situation is not handled properly.  These books are written in a manner to help children understand what is happening around them, and hopefully cope better with the life-changing circumstances that are unfolding.  CCS believes that the book, Bernard, which tells the story of a young dog who runs away because his owners argue who will keep them when they break up, is an extremely useful book for younger-age (3-7) children.  It interprets the situation the child is experiencing in a more realistic and relatable way.  For older children (ages 8-12) CCS firmly backs the book, My Parents Are Divorced Too: A Book for Kids by Kids.  This age group is a time when a child is beginning to become more influenced by their peers.  The stories of the other children who have experienced a divorce helps teach the children currently going through the situation how to cope with everything that is happening.
